HCAO website redesign — case study

Health Care for All Oregon (HCAO)

Website Redesign

I redesigned the Health Care for All website, including its navigational structure, visual design, and much of the content. The new site is modern and engaging, with clear calls to action.

Path to Universal Healthcare

A critical challenge for HCAO was communicating the timeline for potentially achieving universal health care in Oregon to site visitors. The new site reduces complexity and increases engagement, with color-coding to emphasize what steps are complete, current, and what's still ahead.

Navigation

Menu structure

The old site’s navigation menu had become cluttered and complex, with visitors often struggling to find the information they needed. Given HCAO’s mission to attract many new people to the cause in the next couple of years, the new site needed a streamlined navigation structure.

The site now guides new visitors through a story; no prior knowledge is needed to explore the site. Pages that need to be quickly accessed by members and volunteers—but that might overwhelm or confuse a first-time visitor—were moved to the footer.

Creating a Useful Site Directory

The old footer wasn't really used. The redesign turned it into a genuine navigation tool for the site. Links here remain easily accessible without cluttering the navigation or confusing first-time visitors.
